Student Leadership Opportunities

Student Council

Student Council is comprised of two student representatives from each grade level and two faculty sponsors.  The students who desire to be on Student Council must fill out a nomination sheet and be elected in to that position by their classmates.  The Western student body also elects one senior as the Student Council President.  All senior nominees give campaign speeches before the students elect their Student Body President.

Western's student council makes many efforts to maintain and promote a positive atmosphere at Western by offering students a voice in what is happening at school.  The Student Council plans many fun activities for the student body, especially during Homecoming week and Western's Week of Fun in the winter.

The Student Council also identifies and selects certain fundraising projects for the student body to participate in.  These fundraising opportunities have been tremendous in the past not only at generating funds for worthy causes, but also by promoting an atmosphere of school unity with everyone working together for a united cause.

Class Officers

Each class selects class officers for each new school year.  These students must obtain a nomination sheet and get signatures of support to get their names on the ballot.  Students elect a class president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer.  Some tasks that these students manage are planning class chapels, organizing fundraisers or class dues, and planning class activities.  The junior class officers are very involved in planning and organizing for the Junior/Senior Banquet.  The senior class officers do the same for their graduation ceremony.  All grade levels have two faculty sponsors to assist and guide these class officers in their responsibilities.

National Honor Society

Membership in the National Honor Society is both an honor and a responsibility.  Members must be elected by the faculty, and membership is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service.  This membership is open to juniors and seniors, and the NHS Induction is held each spring in conjunction with Western's Award Night.  Members of Western's NHS then assist with the graduation ceremony that spring; they are also recognized at that graduation ceremony.
