News of the week

It looks like fall.....the calendar says its fall.....but the weather sure is beautiful and a little more summer like. We will take it as long as the Good Lord wants to bless us with it. Please pray for safety as the farmers continue to take in the harvest and also for patience as we now reach the time in the school year where we all have settled in and the "newness" of the current school year has worn off and we can hit a few bumps in the road. We have a building full of teen-agers and those of us that have already "been there...done that" know that it's not always as perfect or as smooth as we would hope.

We will be ending the 1st quarter next week Friday with a 2:30 dismissal. Report cards should be available online by Thursday morning, Nov. 2 . I will be emailing a copy to you as well sometime on Thursday.

Parent Teacher conferences will be held on November 6 and 7 from 3 pm to 9 pm. I will be emailing out the information for this on Monday. You can begin calling/emailing on Thursday, October 26. We will have classes in the morning on those two days and will run period 1-4 on Monday, Nov. 6 and periods 5-8 on Tuesday, Nov. 7. There will not be hot lunch served on those two days.

We want to congratulate the CC teams on a great season. We also want to congratulate Whitney Minderhoud and Jonathan Veldman on qualifying for the State CC meet. They will run on Saturday, October 28.

Tickets are on sale for The Pack Players' presentation of The Sound of Music on Thursday and Friday, November 2nd and 3rd at 7:00 PM and Saturday, November 4th at 1:00 PM in the Event Center. Please follow the link to reserve your tickets. The price of admission is $8 plus processing fee. Tickets will be sold at the door through the online system as well (including the processing fee). Counselor's Corner:
Financial Aid Night is this coming Tuesday, October 24 at 7 pm in the cafeteria. Harlan Harmelink, Director of Financial Aid at Dordt, will be here to walk seniors and their parents through the FAFSA and Financial Aid for college. This is for all seniors regardless of what college they plan to attend.

The U.S. Department of Education has changed the timeline for release of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is now available online on October 1 instead of January 1 and students and families are able to use previous year tax information. High school seniors this year can complete the FAFSA any time after October 1, 2017 using 2016 tax information. This change is designed to help students and parents get financial aid information earlier to assist them in making a more informed decision about their choice of college.

This coming week we will have several college admissions representatives visiting: Monday - Southeast Technical Institute, Tuesday - Trinity, Wednesday - Kirkwood, Thursday - Iowa Lakes, and Friday - Western Iowa Tech.

We will be running a "Weather alert" on our JMC messaging system next week Wednesday. This will be the system will we issuing our school delays, early outs and cancellations for the upcoming winter months. To add or remove this feature from JMC please log into your parent portal and select the box "emergency/weather related" and add the phone number with the format (xxx-xxx-xxxx). We would suggest parents also include the student cell phones to receive these alerts. If we decide to postpone or cancel school the night before we will send out the alert at that time. If we decide in the morning we will wait till 7:00 to send out the announcement.
As always, we will put announcements on our homepage, Twitter and local radio stations as soon as we get word.

Fun'd Night is just around the corner. Please remember to mark you calendars and plan to attend this yearly event! Actually...the on-line auction starts on Monday, October 23 at 1 pm and will run through November 13 at 1 pm. There are many items already out there and items will be continually added as we get them. MEAT ORDERS are also online and forms will be be in your church mailboxes on Sunday. We are still looking for donations of all varieties...handmade items for the sale, baked items like a fancy pie etc., clothing, christmas decor, you know the kind of things that are on these sales. In addition to that we would love to have special themed meals, weekend trips, game nights or any other fun events you can come up with. Give us a call and let us know what you are thinking! Thanks!
