News of the week

Lots of festive kids and staff walking through the halls here today. We had plenty of goodies...thank you to those of you brought some in. The kids love it! We can have so much fun at this time of the year with things like this but we also know that as we get closer to Christmas Day we will all spend some time reflecting on that day so many, many years ago when God sent his Son into this world for one purpose. To save each one of us! Let us not forget that as we approach Christmas Day and every day after that!

Lunch accounts - I need some of you to check your accounts. We have some that are getting very low. I will also send out emails this afternoon with your balance if your are low.

Parents, are you looking for ideas on how to be a better parent? Check out the Parenting Teens Summit, an online conference for parents. Lots of great speakers and information!

Concert Choir and Orchestra to perform at Northwest Iowa Honor Choir
Western's Concert Choir was selected to perform at the Northwest Iowa Honor Choir on January 15th at the BJ Haan Auditorium. The concert will include selections from The Northwest Iowa Honor Choir and Western's Concert Choir.
(The honor choir consists of nominated students from area high schools who will rehearse and perform five selections together).
We are very honored to be asked to perform at the concert that evening and are hoping you support the Concert Choir and Orchestra by attending the concert. We are excited to perform one of our pieces from the Christmas Concert, "The Ground", by Ola Gjeilo again with Western's Orchestra!

Update from the Spiritual Life Coordinator:

We were blessed with two great chapel messages this week. Pastor John Lee from Sioux Center, and Pastor Daniel Donovan from Sanborn, led us in our chapels. Again, please extend your gratitude to the speakers we are blessed with (on a regular basis!) in chapels. Pastor Lee delivered a simple, yet beautiful message about God's answers to us--the yes and the no. Pastor Lee reminded us that the gift of Christmas is God's greatest YES in all of history. What a great message! Pastor Donovan used our theme verse (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and encouraged all of us to spend time in God's Word. In fact, he gave us 5 R's to follow as we read God's Word. Maybe you could have a conversation with your son or daughter about those 5--Regularly, Repeatedly, Readily, Remembering-ly, and Rejoicing-ly. What a great way to once again encourage one another to be a people who devote ourselves to reading and living out God's Word. Pastor Donovan gave lots of practical advice on HOW to start or maintain Bible reading in our lives. Please be encouraged as families and individuals to open God's Word every day. What rich blessings God promises and fulfills when we open His Word!

Our annual Christmas chapel will be on Thursday, Dec. 21. You are all invited to attend. 9:15ish!
