I believe I am the only teacher at Western who can proudly say that I grew up in a town known as the "Home of the World's Largest Strawberry" — Strawberry Point, IA, in Northeast Iowa.  I attended school there and graduated from Starmont High School, home of the Starmont Stars.  I then attended Iowa State University and graduated with a BS degree in Industrial Education and Technology.  I also earned my Master of Arts in Technology from Morningside College.  Before coming to Western, I taught at the Netherlands Reformed School in Rock Valley, grades 7-12.

My family and I live in Hull and are members of Hope CRC.  My wife, Dar, and I have four children: Gina (married to David VanLingen), Davis,(married to Jami Driesen), Ethan, and Caden.  I enjoy working with computers, running, and woodworking.  One of my favorite Bible verses is Isaiah 50:4, "The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.  He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught."

I love the variety of work involved here at Western, and I enjoy working in a Christian environment.  It seems like something new is always just around the corner.  My personal goal in my teaching and coaching is to continue to use my gifts and talents and to assist students in their own personal growth.  I have lots of opportunities to do that with my current assignment here at Western:   I am the Tech Coordinator, I teach Computer Programming,  Drafting I, Drafting II (Architecture), Woods I and Woods II. In addtitiona I am the girls  track and field coach, and have coached football, baseball and weightlifting.
