HEALTH AND LIFE MANAGEMENT - LIFE SKILLS

This course will focus as much on consumer education topics (such as money management and evaluation of consumer information and advertising) as on personal health topics. In addition, development of decision making, communication, interpersonal, and coping skills and strategies are included as course objectives. The class will also cover areas of personal development, (which includes character development, goal setting, decision-making and values-evaluating etc.), relationship skills, the role of families and friends and problem coping skills.

HEALTH FOR PARENTING TEENS - CHILD DEVELOPMENT
This course is designed for teaching students about the wide range of parenting and health issues. Prenatal and postnatal care, health and well-being of young parents, child development, stress management, and parental/adult roles are included. The course may also include academic assistance, career exploration, financial management, etc. This course introduces students to child development, parenting skills, and can also help them to better understand themselves. Areas of study covers child development, reproduction, fetal development, the birthing process, better preparation skills for parenting as well as the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of children.

HEALTH
This course is a study of the concept that health encompasses the total person. Health is a full year course, but can also be taken in separate semesters. Internet is used extensively, to make the course current, and to complement the textbook. A number of special projects are also completed to make the course very personal and practical. First semester topics include; wellness, the body systems relationship to health, mental health, self-analysis, stress management, and personal relationships. Second semester topics include; nutrition, physical fitness, drugs, consumer education, environmental health, first aid and safety. A number of "field trips" are included to gain first hand knowledge about several areas of health. Open to grades 9 - 12
